Author: Rachael Wade

Series: Preservation (#1)

Genre: contemporary, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 8th April 2012

Recieved: thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Blurb: Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon. Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage. When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor. But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

My Rating: 3.75/5 stars image

My Review: This is a very frustrating book that grips the reader from the beginning. I really enjoyed it but there were a couple of things which let me down hence the slightly lower rating. Rachael Wade kept the pace of this book fast and the reader interested. Preservation is a novel full of drama and raw emotions with romance at its core. The author, despite the small issues I had with this book has created a fantastic novel which portrays real emotions throughout. This book is a constant roller coaster which leaves you desperate to find out what will happen next. At the heart of this novel is the twist and turns that together made for a phenomenal plot.

Kate lives a hard, difficult life. Constantly facing eviction and a pill of unpaid bills whilst trying to care for her mother can take it’s toll on a young women. The last thing she needs is an arrogant, self-centred professor singling her out with the soul purpose of making her day even worse than it already was. Things are not always what they appear though.  As sparks begin to fly old skeletons will resurface and may this delicate new found romance before it has even begun. This book is packed full of raw emotions which often come straight from both Kate and Ryan. The fast pace of the book has the reader hooked from the beginning and before they know it the novel is finished. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of this book there were a couple of things that let me down. For example I would have liked to have known a bit more about the characters childhoods and family lives to help me connect with them more. Particularly I would have enjoyed finding out more about Kate’s dad and why he left to help me sympathise with her more. Despite this minor thing Rachael Wade has given her readers a fast paced romantic drama which will stay with you long after you have finished reading. She does this through her believable, well developed characters.

The author ha created two fantastic characters the the reader develops a love/hate relationship with over the course of the book. Despite the fact I really liked both of the main characters the biggest reason I gave this book a lower rating was the constant back and forth throughout the book. I don’t mind some drama and old problems resurfacing during romance novels but every time things would settle down something else would happen. Ryan and Kate spent the majority of this book arguing and then making up which really took away from the connection the reader may have formed with these two brilliant characters. Although this annoyed me at times I still thoroughly enjoyed the majority of this novel and I am sure many reader would not mind this rollercoaster journey. Ryan is a strong, sexy, arrogant man who the reader can’t help but connect with. During the book you often find yourself incredibly frustrated with Ryan but they can’t help but like this original, believable character even though at times the reader just wants to hit him. Both of Rachael Wade’s great characters show raw emotions throughout the course of the book and the honesty of these characters draws the reader in from the very beginning.

Overall despite the fact I wanted to hit this book off the wall at times I did really enjoyed it. The honesty the characters have and the emotions the reader feels saved this book for me. I would definitely recommend romance lovers give this book a try as it is worth the read.

Author: Rachael Wade

Series: Preservation (#2)

Genre: contemporary, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 6th March 2013

Recieved: once again thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book.

Blurb: A sequel to the Amazon bestselling romance, Preservation, told from Ryan’s point of view.

Old Habits Die Hard. Ryan Campbell is not only leaving his title of Professor behind to move on to bigger and better things at Simon and Warden Publishing, he’s also become Seattle’s rising literary star. Sitting on the overwhelming cusp of newfound fame, he learns soon enough that being popular has its downside. Attracted to the buzz surrounding his new career, former lovers begin to creep back into his life, and potential ones emerge with enticing advances. While he works to juggle reserved, yet stressful, wedding plans with Kate and his new public image, he has enough to manage without worrying about Carter and Dean—Kate’s loveable albeit eccentric friends—and their latest shenanigans. Surrounded by a lifestyle that includes temptation at every turn, Ryan finds himself immersed in a world full of scandal and lies, where his oldest weaknesses thrive and his ghosts return to haunt him. Questioning whether his life with Kate is his best path, he must discover if he’s still capable of being the man he aspired to be when she first became his, or if happily ever after is only an illusion.

My Rating: 4/5 stars image

My Review: This book had my heart constantly aching during its roller coaster journey. Rachael Wade seems to keep improving as the series goes on. I enjoyed this book even more than the first instalment in the series. The author once again kept the pace of this book fast, leaving the reader desperate to finish. The second novel in this series contrasted perfectly with the first novel as it was in Ryan’s point of view rather than Kate’s. As the reader this gave me an insight into Ryan’s character and helped me understand him more. Rachael Wade has done a brilliant job of continuing on with this series plot without letting her readers get bored.

Ryan’s dreams are finally coming true but he is experiencing them without the love of his life by his side. Although this should be the best time of his life Ryan has to make a few compromises along the way and slowly bit by bit his life is thrown into turmoil. These two people may be perfect for each other but can they cope with the distance and the strain it is putting on their relationship. This series continues to get better the more it goes on. Reservation starts right where the first book leaves off and I would suggest you read the series in order for each book to make sense. Rachael Wade is a brilliant author who throughout the course of the book portrays raw emotions which rip the readers heart out and leaves them breathless. I enjoyed this book even more than the first one and had only stupid minor issues which meant I couldn’t give this book an even higher rating. The author allows her readers to emotionally connect with her characters as during the book we get to see the characters when they are together and apart. As well as creating a fantastic plot Rachael Wade has also developed phenomenal characters who bring out strong emotions from within the reader.

During the course of the book the reader develops a strong love/hate relationship with the characters of this novel. The characters leave the reader even more frustrated than they were in the first instalment and at times you just want to bang their heads together. Ryan makes some very stupid decisions during this novel and not only breaks Kate’s heart but also the readers as they become extremely connected to these characters. You find yourself both loving and hating Ryan at the same time. Although Ryan is a conflicting character by the end of the book the reader understands him better and the reasons for his actions. This is due to the fact this second book is told from his perspective which allowed the reader to emotionally connect with him. Ryan is an incredibly honest character and his straight to the point view of the world is refreshing for the reader. As the reader I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ryan and Kate’s relationship develop and their love grow over the course of this second book. This novel is an emotional rollercoaster which has the reader hooked from the very beginning.

Overall if you don’t mind the slightly backwards and forwards plot then you will love this book. Rachael Wade is a fantastic author and I can’t wait to see what she writes next. I would definitely recommend anyone who likes a romance book with a bit of turmoil read this book, but make sure to read the first one as well.

Now finally on to the book that this tour is all about 🙂

Author: Rachael Wade

Series: Preservation (#3) – standalone novel

Genre: contemporary, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 1st October 2013

Received: A big thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of each book in this brilliant series.

Blurb: Featuring characters from Love and Relativity.

Carter Montgomery spent most of his life blending in, and he liked it that way. It was always better to be seen, not heard. And while a theatric streak and friendly demeanor might have fooled most people, he knew the truth—he was the shy one. The quiet kid most people forgot about. Some might have considered that a bad thing, but those people all wanted to be in the spotlight. The only place Carter didn’t mind attention was on stage, with The Hellions. Once content in his comfort zone in Seattle, Washington, he only knew three things: confrontation was to be avoided, keeping the peace was priority, and the moment he lost Kate Parker to Professor Ryan Campbell, he had no clue what to do with his life. Playing gigs, working at Pike Place Market, and watching BBC after the love of his life sailed off into the sunset just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. Desperate to escape his rut, he takes a cue from Kate and chooses a random place to relocate—a small island across the country, where no one knows his name and memories of unrequited love aren’t found at every turn. Just when he thinks he’s found the perfect place to unwind and sink back into the shadows, in bursts Whitney Sinclair, a saucy firecracker who loves life and refuses to settle for second best. Full of contagious energy, she dares him to be brave, convincing him that it might finally be time to tell the world what he wants. It might be time to make a declaration.

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars image

My Review: Amazing! This series keeps getting better and better. Rachael Wade has really out done herself with the next instalment in the Preservation series. This is by far one of her best pieces of writing. The author had the reader hooked from the very beginning and left them up at night desperate to find out what will happen next in this great romance novel. Declaration has by far been my favourite book in this series for a number of different reasons.   I was able to relax and simply enjoy the book rather than waiting tensely for something to go wrong for the brilliant characters. From the start this book draws the reader in with its fast pace. The author has once again created a terrific plot for this highly anticipated book.

Carter wants out. Out of Settle, out of his boring daily errands and most of all out of his roll as blending in with the background. After randomly selecting a small quiet island to live Carter quickly begins a new life in a place where no ones knows him. As well as wanting to re-create himself Carter is also desperate to escape the heartbreak of loving your best friend. But fate works in strange ways and he might just find the one thing he is running from. Love! Starting over is not as easy as it seems especially when you find your perfect match who wants nothing but a casual fling. This novel draws the reader in from the word go. The phenomenal prologue captures the readers attention with Carters straight to the point honest narrating. This book was much less back and forth than the first two books in the series which meant the reader was less on edge. Although Declaration can be read as a standalone novel I would highly recommend you read the whole series as many of the characters from book one and two feature in this instalment. It was brilliant getting to find out about the previous characters who you connected with during the start of the series as well as being introduced to brand new fiery characters. This book had a flawless plot which contained some funny moments as well as some heartbreaking ones. The reader was entertained throughout the course of this book due to the great characters.

The author has created brilliant, well developed characters who were easy to relate to. Both the main characters were believable and the reader can quickly connect with them. As well as this these fantastic characters shared a few funny moments which kept the reader interested and desperate for more. Carter was an extremely quirky and entertaining narrator who had a brilliant personality. He was a unique character who had many layers. A sexy, musician with a broken heart is the last thing Whitney a young fiery women anticipated to crash into her life but that is exactly what happened. Whitney was the perfect partner for Carter she countered his crazy habits and put up with his strange obsession with all things British. These characters were incredibly easy to like and simply added to an already fantastic book.

Overall this was a great series which kept getting better and better as it went on. I can’t wait to see what Rachael Wade writes next. I would definitely recommend romance lovers give this series a try as it is worth your time.
