Review: The Temptation of Lila and Ethan

Posted on Updated on

Genre: Contemporary romance

Audience: new adult

received: thank you to netgalley and Forever(Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with this book on a read for review basis.

Goodreads Blurb:

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She’ll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there’s only one person who’s there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn’t do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila’s pretty princess image, Ethan can’t deny they have a deeper connection than he’s used to. If he’s not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he’s learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?

My Review:

Heartbreakingly beautiful! Jessica Sorensen has once again delivered us with a book that has the ability to tug at anyone’s heartstrings. The author has wonderful gift, no matter what she writes about she manages to draw the reader in and wrap them up in the characters personalities and difficult lives. This is a deeply emotional book which shows the characters true feelings and is not scared to address difficult subjects. Jessica Sorensen handled the hard hitting situations within this book brilliantly and allowed the reader to connect with characters on a deep level.

This  wonderful heart shattering book follows the story of Lila and Ethan and the struggles they face everyday. Lila grew up in a rich home that hidden behind closed doors was far from the happy home it appeared to be. After the abrupt end to a relationship with a man she thought to love Lila turns to legal pills and one night stands to numb the pain and the feelings of worthlessness. Growing up Ethan’s life was the complete opposite of Lila’s. Barely scraping by on the little money they had and living with a dad who is battling addiction Ethan had little in common with Lila, except they both had previous relationships which ended badly. Ethan is determined not to follow in his fathers footsteps and not to fall in love. Can these two broken souls heal each other? This is a beautiful, intense, tear gerking novel. Many different issues are dealt with very well during this book, including Lila’s addiction to her legal pills. The feelings Lila shows throughout this book and her reactions to certain situations are incredibly believable. Nothing about this book is far fetched or impossible. I loved both Lila and Ethan’s background stories. Their backgrounds are completely different which makes their love even sweeter. As we watched Lila and Ethan’s love for each other grow as they help heal one another’s wounds we are praying they get their happy ending.

I believe Lila is a fantastic leading female, dispite her addiction she was a very strong person and extremely independent. It was easy for me as the reader to become attached to Lila and her story. She was a believable character who stayed true to herself throughout the book. Ethan was an incredibly sweet, protective, caring and don’t forget hot main male character. He stuck by Lila during the worst and was determined to help even when she was pushing him away. Ethan was also a character I connected with due to his actions and background story. I loved watching these characters grow together as their love blossomed. It was very easy to become emotionally connected to these brilliant characters.

Overall these beautifully broken characters drew me in as the grew as people whilst helping one another survive. Fans of Ella and Micha will love this book. Jessica Sorensen is a fantastic author and I can’t wait to see what she writes next. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of romance in their life.

My review:

Wow! Holly Hook has done it again with an action packed introduction to her new Deathwind series. The author managed to immediately grab my attention by diving straight into this novels drama filled plot. This is a fast paced book which doesn’t slow down – not even on the very last page. Holly Hook has an amazing gift which allows her to keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout. This book is full of action, suspense, betrayal and drama. The author has done a brilliant job of making this novels plot move seamlessly.

Allie is a normal teenage girl apart from her slight quirk. She loves tornadoes! During her holiday instead of spending her time at the beach with other girls her age, her uncle takes her tornado chasing. Although all seems well at the beginning of the chase Allie’s life is about to be turned upside down. After a tornado hits their truck Allie wakes up in a foreign barn with the sound of peoples voices surrounding her. Allie later awakens again only to find out she has become the very thing she has spent her whole life fascinated with. Throughout this novel Allie is faced with her uncles repeated betrayals, the reason she was turned and the discovery she is not alone in her new life. During this book there were small hints of a love triangle between Allie, Tommy her best friend and Dorian another out breaker who Allie appears to have a connection with. Although there seems to be a love triangle it is not evident as that is not what the book was about. This novel is purely about Allie herself and the new life she is forced into. The only criticism I have for this book is although there is mention  of a connection being formed between Dorian and Allie very little is mentioned about it. I would have liked to have seen more reason behind it and a bigger reaction to it.

Allie was an easy character to like she had to deal with large changes in a short space of time and her uncles constant betrayals. Both Tommy and Dorian were great characters in my opinion, some parts of  their personalities were quite similar. This meant if you liked one chances are you would like the other.

Overall this was a fast paced book which I enjoyed apart from one small thing. This was a fantastic start to a new series and if you likes Holly Hook’s other books you will love this one as well. I would definitely recommend people try this books as soon as it is released.

My Rating: 4.5/5

My review:

A sweet love story that leaves you desperate for more. Shane Morgan is a fantastic author who creates gorgeous scenes for the reader to imagine. She has a way of taking a simple thing and changing it into a magical, romantic scene. This book is a roller coaster of emotions making your heart swell and then shatter within a few pages. One of  my favourite things about this book was its dual perspective. I enjoyed getting to read both Moya and Braden’s point of view  It allowed the reader to see the reasons behind some of the characters actions. It also allowed the reader to connect with both of the main characters rather than just one.

“The glowing moon lighting up the sky, crickets providing a soundtrack in the dark”

Shane Morgan also created a brilliant sweet romance filled plot. Moya has often been abandoned by those she loves, including her dad. Due to this she was determined not to fall in love and only concentrate on her studies but that all changes when Braden walks into her life. Braden is on a mission to make Moya his but with health issues returning can they ever be together. Sometimes during this book I really wanted to hit them both over back of their heads as they are perfect for each other but kept letting other things get in the way. Apart from these frustrating moments I really loved the whole idea of this book. Throughout the book the reader is  desperate for  Moya and Braden to get together. Shane Morgan is a brilliant author who’s descriptions are magical and set up fantastic romantic scenes.

I thought Moya was a wonderful strong minded female character. She was tough and stuck to what she believed in and didn’t back down for anyone. The only criticism I have for this book is a would have liked more insight into Moya’s abandonment issues. Moya was a very believable character which made it easier for the reader to like her.

Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it as it does the job of being a heartbreaking love story brilliantly  Shane Morgan is a great author and I can’t wait to see how Moya and Braden’s story continues.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I feel like my hearts been ripped out. I kept waiting for the moment she came walking through the door or her hand twitched showing she was alive. Despite the traumatising ending I loved this book. Even though no amount of perpetration can brace you for the heartbreaking ending. Veronica Roth has a beautiful way with words which allows the reader to feel the characters every emotion along with them.

Once again Veronica Roth created a brilliant plot full of twist and turns. As problems arise within their city Tris and Four along with a group of others decide to venture out into the unknown past the border to see what lies on the other side. What they find is not what they were expecting. Their whole world will be turned upside down as they discover the real reason for the factions. The author has mastered the art of keeping the readers attention perfectly. This book is full of suspense and danger. It also is full of fantastic twist and turns which will keep the reader up waiting to see what will happen next. The characters are forced to make hard decisions to reach the end goal of the book. Veronica Roth has created a wonderful plot and a beautifully written book.

On top of this the authors characters stayed true to themselves throughout the whole series. In this book I noticed a big difference in Tris and Four they had both matures a lot and I enjoyed watching this happen slowly throughout the series. As well as individually becoming more mature their relationship also matured significantly as both characters had to make tough decisions but in the end it made their relationship stronger. You could tell how much they loved each other which made the ending even harder to cope with.

Overall I thought this was a wonderful but heartbreaking conclusion to a fantastic series. These books will stay with me for a long time. Veronica Roth is a brilliant author and if you haven’t read this series yet you have read them as sons as possible.
