Series: A Knight’s Tale (#1)

Genre: contemporary, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 18th February 2014

Blurb:

When Emma Anderson arrived at San Francisco International Airport, she regretted accepting the distinction of being the maid of honor to Gaby’s—her childhood friend—wedding. It had been years since the last time she set foot in Menlo Park, where her parents had been killed. The rug where she had been shoving her feelings since that day looked bumpier than a camel’s hump. Who could blame her; if she hadn’t been selfish they’d still be around. Ever since that fateful day, Emma has been perfecting the knack of Getting By.

Cade’s wedding in Menlo Park—a city close to San Francisco—might be the perfect place for Jake Knight to shake the memories of his ex, Emma Anderson for good. Single, available women galore for an entire week was the perfect medication, one he intended to take three times a day for an entire week to return to his player days. It was a plan the former spy thought flawless until he came face to face with the maid of honor. Jake’s perfect retreat turns into a flight, fight or hide week of celebrations.

My Review:

Amazing! This book draws the reader in from the very beginning. I really enjoyed this novel and the only reason I didn’t give it a full five stars is due to the fact at certain points the book did not completely flow. Despite this small issue which in amongst the whole of the book is barely noticeable, this is a phenomenal book. The start of this novel was a brilliant and uncommon opening which is very intriguing for the reader. By going back after the prologue and telling the story from the beginning  the reader develops a better understanding for the characters and their relationship. This interesting opening has the reader hooked from the start and leaves them desperate for more of this great book. Although I enjoyed this novel one thing that stood out and made this book brilliant to read was the split perspective. The reader was quickly able to connect with both of the main characters as we were able to see into their thoughts and therefore understand them better. At the heart of this book is a well developed plot which keeps the reader interested.

Jacob was left confused and with conflicting emotions when Emma unexpectedly walked out of his life after two years. But fate works in funny ways and these two head strong people are about to be thrown back together. Can these two people finally overcome their pasts and see their future in each other? Fate plays a large part in this novel as it constantly throws the two main characters together throughout the course of the book. This gives the reader  a slightly different book from other contemporary romances to add to their shelves. The idea of fate gives this novel an original twist which keeps the reader interested and wanting to find out what will happen next. Claudia Burgoa slowly built her characters stories and history throughout the book which left the reader hooked and wanting to discover more. By building the characters history piece by piece the reader was able to emotionally connect with the characters

Overall this is a brilliant book that is not your average romance. I now would love to read more of Claudia Burgoa’s books as she seems like a great author. I am now patiently waiting for the release of the next intsallment in the series. I would definitely recommend lovers of contemporary romance try and read this book as it is worth your time.
