The guy she wants…

Growing up on the coast of Maine with a revolving door of foster siblings, Caitlyn Michaud spent one intense and passionate year falling in love with her foster brother, Heath. Then he left without a word. The betrayal devastated Caitlyn and made her vow to forget the compelling bad boy. But forgetting his sensual touch and their deep all-consuming friendship is easier said than done.

Isn’t the guy she needs…

Determined to move on, in college Caitlyn has risen above her small town impoverished roots and has joined a sorority, reinvented her appearance, and landed the right boyfriend. Pre-law major and frat president, Ethan, is thoughtful and always laughing, and he makes her feel happy, calm. He also gives her the social acceptance she craves.

But the perfect world she tried so hard to attain is ripped apart when Heath appears one night out of nowhere. Caitlyn remembers all the reasons why she loves him, even if they don’t make sense to anyone but her. Out of the military, Heath is as brooding and intense as ever, and he is determined not only to win her back, but to exact revenge on everyone who kept him from her…

And when one love allows her to breathe, but the other feels as essential to her life as air, how does she choose between them?

My Review:

This novel draws you in from the very beginning. The opening prologue grabs the readers attention and leaves them desperate for more.  Although I really enjoyed this book there was a few things that let me down and meant I had to lower my rating. The main problem I had with this book was the leading girl as I found it difficult to connect with her. Despite this I did enjoy this book overall and wished it had been longer. Erin McCarthy created a brilliant book packed full of angst, drama and heart ache  that was pulled together by the wonderful ending. The conclusion of this novel was perfect it allowed the reader to finally understand the characters and understand their at times selfish actions. Before the ending though was a captivating plot that although predictable at times was fantastic.

Overall anyone who enjoys a tormented love story should give this book a try. Although there was some things that let the me down reading this book was worth it. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see what the author does next.

Series: Darkness (#1)

Genre: paranormal, romance, fantasy

Audience: YA/NA

Publication Date: 13th February 2013

Blurb:

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

Title: Fire in the Darkness

Series: Darkness (#2)

Genre: paranormal, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 31st August 2013

Blurb:

It’s been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.

And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Now finally onto the book this post is all about 🙂

Title: Dwellers of Darkness

Series: Darkness (#3)

Genre: paranormal, fantasy, romance

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 27th February 2014

Blurb:

Some days feel like years, but in Ember Brycin’s case just the opposite is true. She had only been in the Otherworld for a day or two when she returned back to the Earth’s realm. But it is three years later on Earth. Em is now 22. It would matter if she was human, but she’s not. She is a Dae, part Demon and part Fay, with a little Dark Dweller thrown in to make her even more of a freak.

Seeing Seattle rebuilt only confirms she has been gone three years. For her it was not long ago that the Seattle area was just rubble of concrete and death. All done by her hand.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is her undeniable connection to Eli Dragen, who is sexy, gorgeous, and even more volatile and frustrating. But her problems go way past him. The Seelie Queen of the Otherworld still holds Mark, Em’s father, and her friends, Ryan, and Josh as hostages. Em needs to rescue them without, once again, getting caught and being used as a pawn to help the Queen regain possession of Earth. At the same time Ember is in hot water with Lars, the Unseelie King, after breaking her contract with him.

As some secrets have come to light others seem to become even more enigmatic. The only truth Ember knows is,everyone is harboring secrets. As Eli’s past is revealed, Em understands more clearly why he acts the way he does and how much their lives are intertwined. But she also knows Eli is holding something back, something that could change their relationship forever.

Em herself continues to wrestle with her feelings toward Torin and her own secret she’s withholding from Kennedy. As the tension for war mounts between the Seelie and Unseelie (Light and Dark), the tension at the Dark Dweller’s compound mounts even more as they prepare to obtain the sword no matter what the price. But is Ember the answer to the location of the sword? Is she the one to fulfill the prophecy? As usual nothing is ever what it seems.

My Review:

Amazing! I am have no words to describe just how brilliant this book is. The Darkness series has been fantastic throughout and this novel did not disappoint. The first two books in the series were also brilliant but Dwellers of Darkness just made the series even better.  If you are going to read this book you will have to read the whole series as the follow on from each other. From the very beginning the reader is drawn in by this novel. As the reader I never wanted this book to end and I found myself up at night desperate to see what would happen next. The reader is left on the edge of their seats with the drama and action filled plot. Stacey Marie Brown has written a phenomenal book packed full of suspense, drama, action and romance. The author has created a unique plot which grabs the readers attention.

Overall I would highly recommend all lovers of paranormal get themselves a copy of this series because it is fantastic. I can’t wait to read the final book in the Darkness series and I hope the author continues to write more breath taking novels.

An Insight Into the Book:

Here you can find some excerpts from the book and an interview with one of its characters.

Excerpt 1

I kissed her again. Slow, gentle, I showed her what I wanted her to know. Not pushing her further, not taking the kiss to the next level, the restraint was pure agony.

I pulled away and looked into her eyes. “Just you and me.”
“Is it?”
I stilled. I couldn’t be mad at her. It was a legitimate question. I struggled with what I wanted to say and what I should say. “I’m here now, with you.” I swept her hair from her shoulder. “There’s nowhere else I want to be.” I didn’t tell her the evening after the incident in my kitchen had been a turning point for me.
The smile touched her lips but weariness held the rest of her expression. “Me either.” She gently rested her head on my chest.
I wrapped my arms around her and stood to my full height, caveman style. Her feet left the ground and I let the soft weight of her fall against me for one torturous moment. Everything about this girl was leaving a mark on my heart.

Excerpt 2

I trailed my fingers down her cheek. “I wanted to kiss you this morning.”
She didn’t flinch. “I know.”
I threaded my hand up the back of her neck. “You pulled away from me.”
“I know.”
I twisted my fingers into her hair. “I still want to kiss you.”
Turning her face, she exposed the smooth skin of her neck. “Please, don’t.”
“Why?” Jesus, she was beautiful.

Interview with Graham Allen

“Hi! So excited, I’m here today with Graham Allen, the bass player for the band you all are waiting patiently for to go on, so I’ll be quick! Say Hi, Graham.” OMG, he’s so hot in person!

“Hey.”
“Yep, you heard it, that sexy-awesome voice. Not that we don’t love Myles’ voice, but we looove when you sing as well. Will there be more songs you do lead locals on?”
“Possibly.”
“Okay, you heard it here first! So, tell me Graham, what’s your favorite song right now?”
“Humming Bird by Alex Clare.”
“Awww, that’s so sweet! I love that song. Does it remind you of someone?”
“Yes.”
“Care to elaborate?”
“No.”
Okay, he’s a little intimidating. I smile but he doesn’t smile back. “So, tell us something we don’t know about you.”
“I hate interviews.”
I laugh nervously. “I think I could’ve guessed that. I heard you’re a car fanatic. If you could drive any car, what would it be?”
“A Smart car,” he deadpans.
I blink. “Really?”
“No.”
I burst out laughing. “Good one. But seriously, what car would be your ideal ride?”
“The one I drive.”
“Which is?”
“71 ‘Cuda 440 6-pack.”
“You have a six pack?” I had to ask! He’s so muscular.
He crosses his arms and stares at me.
“Um, sorry. Okay, so what color is your car?”
“Black.”
Sexy. “What’s it like working with Myles?” That’s the lead singer and guitarist for all you newbies out there.
“Humbling.”
“Wow, that’s heavy.” Inspiration strikes. “What would Myles say it’s like working with you?”
“Irritating.” A ghost of a smile touches the corner of his mouth.
I think I might faint. He’s that hot. If, you know, you go for that whole tattooed, rocker, bad boy, thing—just saying. I smile because it’s impossible not to. “I’ll have to ask him about that.” With a surge of confidence, I wink.
“You do that.” The smile, lazy, practiced, kicks up a notch and now I know I’m going to faint.
“Oh, that’s just not fair.”
His only answer is to hold the half smile of amusement and incline his head once like he knows exactly the effect he has on women.
“Okay, one more question, because I know you all are about to go on. Who’s been your single greatest influence, musically, or otherwise?” I hold my breath, because for some reason, I think he’s about to surprise the crap out of me.
“That’s a personal question.”
“It is.” I don’t blink.
He maintains eye contact.
I wait.
“I don’t answer personal questions. I protect the people who are close to me.”
Wow. So sweet. “I think I just fell in love.”
This time, the smile hits both sides of his face. “You’re too late, sweetheart.” Then he strides out of the room like he owns the place.

Get to know the author:

Marysue G Hobika grew up in Caledonia, NY and attended SUNY at Buffalo where she studied to be a Spanish teacher. Currently she lives in Pittsford, NY with her husband, three children, and her two pugs.

She has learned that stories don’t write themselves and tries to make time every day to sit down and write. She does her best thinking while in the shower, driving her kids around, or right before she falls asleep. She keeps a moleskin notebook handy that a dear friend gave her as a gift, so that if an idea occurs she can write it down.

She doesn’t know where this journey will take her, but she has a lot of characters and stories floating around inside her head waiting to be brought to life.

Interview:

1- What genre is your book?

“Never Far Away” is my first crack at writing a New Adult/Contemporary Romance novel. My resume includes 3 YA novels, and I was ready to branch out and expand my style and audience.

2- What inspired you to write this novel?

A real life event inspired this novel. I took a real situation—two neighbors fighting over seats on the back of the bus in elementary school, never really agreeing on anything, and placed these two antagonist characters years down the road. What happens? How are they different? The same? They share history, but can they share a future?

3- What book are you reading now?

Currently I am reading short stories in Spanish and meeting with a great group of ladies once a month to discuss them. Hablamos en español todo el tiempo y me encanta.

4- If you could have breakfast with anyone past or present who would you choose, and why?

I would choose my mother. She died when I was in my early twenties and so much has happened in my life since then that I’d love to share with her—I finished college, got my first job, got married, and had kids. I’d love to see the look on her face when I told her I’m a writer too. I’ll never forget the day back in high school when she drove me to school and I suddenly remembered I had written an essay on a whim for a contest and it was due that day—typed. (This was before computers were in every household). My mom sighed and took the essay to work and typed it for me and dropped it off at school, and I won. She was proud of me then and I’m sure she’d be proud of me know. After breakfast I’d like to have her show me how to make an apple pie with her homemade crust because that’s something I miss.

 5- What’s your favorite dessert?

My mom’s homemade apple pie, of course.

6- How would you describe yourself in three words?
Creative, Happy, and Kind.

My Review:

Wow! If you like Divergent or the Hunger Games then you will enjoy reading this book. The author has done a fantastic job of creating a unique and interesting plot which draws the reader in. This book is jammed full of action and drama and leaves the reader on the edge of their  seats. Kate Ormand allows her readers to easily connect with her characters as we get to experience each day they have left. Although the plot of this story was very original it’s events seemed unlikely. It may be fictional but fighting of cyborgs with few weapons seemed impossible which made me give this novel a slightly lower rating.  Despite this I did enjoy the majority of this book.

Overall this was a great book which had its own spin on the dystopian genre. I would recommend readers give this novel a try because despite its faults it is worth the read.

We crashed and burned like a falling plane. Hard and fast with an inevitable explosion. Another few weeks together changed my life the way the first did. At twenty-four, I became naïve again. I became a dreamer again. A believer. And walking away hurts just as much as it did seven years ago.
But over doesn’t have to mean over-at least in Aaron Stone’s mind. His pursuit is relentless, his determination unwavering. He’ll go to any lengths to keep me and prove that I belong to him. Unfortunately, love isn’t easy, and whether or not I forgive him is irrelevant to his past catching up with us. Once again, our relationship is haunted by a secret, one that could destroy everything, and the secret is born from the need to protect the other…
But the tables have turned, because the secret is mine.

Final Call is the second and final book in the Call series and is the conclusion to Aaron and Dayton’s story. It’s is not a standalone and Late Call must be read first.

My Review:

Wow! I am really struggling to find the words to explain just how brilliant this book is. The author has managed to leave many of her readers speechless with this dramatic conclusion to the phenomenal Vortex series. From beginning to end this novel is packed full of drama, suspense, romance and unexpected twist and turns that leave the reader desperate for more. This series has gotten better and better as it has went on and this book is the percent conclusion to a brilliant series. ‘Deuce’ has the reader hooked from the start and keeps them up at night wanting to see what will happen next in this rollercoaster novel. If you are going to read this series you will have to read it in order otherwise it won’t make sense. The reader is draw in by this book and it’s unique plot almost instantly. Janine Caldwell cleverly has a dual perspective in her book which allows the reader to easily connect with both characters. As the reader I thoroughly enjoyed reading Trent’s perspective as well as Cassie’s.  The drama contained in this novel along side the fantastic romance keeps the reader wanting more. With the twist and turns the author had written her readers will be on the edge if their seats.

Series: Blurred Lines (#2)

Genre: romance, contemporary

Audience: New Adult

Publication Date: 23rd June 2014

Blurb:

The solace she sought…

In and out of foster care her whole life, Tiffany Ennis has never had space or privacy, so housesitting a mansion on the coast of Maine with only the absentee rich owner’s dog for company is pure bliss. But her peace is shattered when the injured owner returns to his compound unexpectedly. Tiffany finds him to be sexy and intriguing, showing an interest in her that must be mocking, given that everyone’s always told her she’s plain, nothing special.

Becomes an affair she never expected…

Devin Gold, known in the music industry as Gold Daddy, is usually in New York City attending drop parties and having men and women alike throw themselves at him, and Tiffany wishes he’d stayed there. There’s no reason for a top producer to hole up in Maine in the dead of winter, and every time she turns around he’s asking her prying questions. She finds herself starting to enjoy their intellectual conversations and clever sparring matches, and in a hot minute she’s falling for him. Even knowing that he’s a decade older, filthy rich, and could only want her for his momentary amusement.

Yet even when he hosts beautiful and confident guests from the city, he still seems to prefer her company, and is protective when odd things start happening around the house, threatening her safety. But how far is Tiffany willing to go with a man who is still very much married, estranged wife or not, just to feel special?

And all the lines between past and present and right and wrong are blurred…
